Application Deadlines
Applications are reviewed on a rolling admissions basis.
We continue to consider masters-level applicants until all seats are filled. We encourage you to apply by the below dates:
Fall 2013 – MPH/MSPH – May 1, 2013 (still accepting applications)
Spring 2014 – MPH/MSPH – November 1, 2013 (available in September)
Fall 2014 – MPH/MSPH – (instructions will be available in September)
Fall 2014 – PhD – January 15, 2014 (firm deadline for complete application)
International applicants must apply early to ensure adequate time for the immigration process.
Applicants are notified of their admission decision 4-6 weeks after their application is completed. University of Miami employees eligible for tuition remission will be notified of their admissions decision on August 1st for fall 2013 and December 20th for Spring 2014.
Application Requirements
- Online Application and non-refundable application fee of 65 USD. Unofficial copies of the requirements below should be uploaded with your online application.
- Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities. All foreign transcripts must be official and submitted in the original language. If the original language is not English, an official translation must be submitted along with the transcript.
- Official GRE test scores (code 5815). Alternatively, applicants to the MPH/MSPH program can submit MCAT, LSAT, GMAT and DAT. Applicants to the MPH/MSPH program that hold advanced degrees (MD, PhD, JD) are encouraged but not required to submit test scores. PhD applicants MUST submit GRE test scores.
- Resume/Curriculum Vitae including employment, activities, community service, education, academic or professional honors.
- Statement of purpose detailing your academic interest in our program as well as your future career goals. This statement should discuss any experience you have in public health including field experience, training, education or other related qualifications. Discuss how earning this degree will contribute to your future and the future of public health. 500 word limit.
- Three letters of recommendation from people who are best able to assess your ability to be successful in a public health degree program. Ideally, your recommenders are recent professors, researchers or employers in a related field. You will be asked for your recommenders’ contact information on the online application. They will be sent an online form to complete via email.
International applicants who do not hold a US passport should apply one month prior to the application deadline and also submit the following:
- If you have previously arranged for a transcript evaluation from a service such as WES, please send a copy of this evaluation. Please note that we still require an original transcript with English translation. Additionally, please submit a copy of your diploma with English translation if applicable.
- All applicants who have attended school in China must submit a verification report in addition to original copies of the transcript and diploma with English translation. Contact the China Academic Degree and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC) at cqv.chinadegrees.cn/cn/. The report must be mailed directly to our address below by the CDGDC.
- International students whose native language is not English are required to submit TOEFL scores (code 5756) or IELTS scores. The TOEFL requirement is waived for applicants who have completed 30 consecutive credits at an English-speaking school or have passed the USMLE.
- A copy of the photo page of your passport (Required for I-20).
- A bank letter, financial support letter or scholarship letter showing the ability to pay tuition and fees plus living expenses to study in the US (Required for I-20). Information for the 2012-2013 academic year is available here.
