Capstone Funding Opportunities

The Department of Public Health Sciences, Graduate Programs offers our MPH students funding opportunities through the following programs:


Public health and population health exist in a multi-cultural world both at the national and international levels. This award is intended to provide cross-cultural experiences in the United States and abroad to MS1 MD/MPH students through the capstone field experience (e.g. Public Health Research, Service, or Health Policy) during the summer before the 2nd year of medical school.

Applicants must be enrolled in the MD/MPH program, have completed at least 9 credits of MPH coursework, and have academic performance in good standing in both MD and MPH programs. The funding level for a given project will be in the $1,000 to $3,000 range

Springboard Grant Award

This funding opportunity is meant to foster innovative thinking in public health research and practice and serve as a launch pad for capstone projects that have the potential for further growth and dissemination. The funding level for a given project will be in the $1,000 to $7,000 range.

Quantum Springboard in Palm Beach Award

This capstone funding opportunity provided by the Quantum Foundation is intended to support MD/MPH students who wish to engage in public health capstone projects to improve health outcomes in Palm Beach County. This funding is aligned with the Quantum Foundation’s mission to improve the health of Palm Beach County by supporting local health related non-profits and entities to carry out projects and services in the community. Public Health Travel Award

This funding opportunity provides support for national or international travel to MPH and MSPH
students who wish to conduct their capstone field experience, capstone
project or thesis project abroad. Funding is available for up to $1,000
per award.

Kuvin Foundation MISH Fellowship

The Miami Israel Science and Health (MISH) fellowship is an established partnership between the University of Miami and the Kuvin Foundation. The MISH fellowship is granted by the Kuvin Foundation specifically to the University of Miami’s MPH, MSPH and MD/MPH students. It is designed to support travel and work in a foreign country dedicated to the Foundation’s mission – building peace in the Middle East region through science. The Fellowship is intended for individuals who express an interest in international scientific collaboration in the Middle East region. With an average award of $5,000, travel is expected to last between three and four months and should include interaction with individuals from other nations.
