We are pleased to announce that Vanessa Morales, M.S.P.H., a Ph.D. student in Prevention Science & Community Health in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, has been selected as a Student Fellow by the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA) for the 2024-2025 academic year.
This distinguished fellowship recognizes Morales’ commitment to advancing maternal and child health.
The MCH Section of APHA has long been at the forefront of addressing the unique health needs of mothers, children, adolescents, and families. As a Student Fellow, Morales will have the opportunity to engage with a diverse network of public health professionals, including physicians, social workers, researchers, and nutritionists, who are deeply involved in healthcare delivery and policy development. This fellowship will enable her to contribute to critical national initiatives while gaining valuable experience that will enhance her contributions to public health.
“Morales' qualifications, achievements, and dedication to the field of maternal and child health have truly stood out,” said Vickie Dugat, Ph.D., M.P.H., Postdoctoral MCH Scholar at the University of South Florida. “We are excited to have her on board and look forward to her active engagement within the MCH Section.”
In her role as an MCH Fellow, Morales will participate in the MCH Leadership Skills Development Training series, policy discussions, and professional development opportunities, furthering her dedication to improving maternal and child health outcomes. Morales will also attend the APHA Annual Meeting and Expo in October 2024, where she will deliver a poster presentation on the breastfeeding climate in Miami-Dade County hospitals, and network with leaders in the field.
We look forward to following Morales’ journey and sharing updates on her contributions to maternal and child health through the MCH fellowship. Stay tuned for further updates following the APHA Annual Meeting.
